Storyteller's Son
04:31
|
|||
I am a story teller’s son
Heard them tall tales since life begun
Soaked ‘em up like words from god
For fear of hell if I did not,
So I told my father’s “truths”
To save them all from hells abuse
Just to find out that we got the story wrong
So I grabbed my father’s gun
For my world no longer spun
I surveyed a fatal spot, but that same fear forbade the shot
There went my youth and my fighting, nail and tooth,
To prove the truth of the falsehoods we had spawned.
Oh, grow up boy! That fairytale life is gone.
And now my world spins again.
Ask no forgiveness for my “sins”.
Lo and behold, no lightning from his hands .
Matter of fact, I’m still a decent man.
Don’t need those tales to choose my way
I make a new one every day,
just to prove that they have the story wrong.
Oh, grow up boy! That fairytale life is gone.
I've never had it better off.
Dried my tears, grabbed the shovel, and buried the pall.
That part of me is dead and gone.
Killed my fear, took my demons and wrestled them all.

Tell it to the Sun
03:55
|
|||
Why don’t you tell it to the sun? Just stare right in.
Sure it burns but there’s a beauty rushing in.
All the hallowed grounds have crumbled to their cores;
To the element we never guessed they were.
And when it all came down
Bitter-sweetness was the sound
Beneath a cloud of dust
Came a ray that broke the dusk
Nowhere left to run
Raise my head and tell the sun
There’s a snake biting my brain I can’t seem to shake.
And there’s a damsel in my bed I can’t seem to save.
I’m in the sky with my arms open wide
begging for your burdens like my prodigal child
Fell into the world seed into sand
Fighting to hold onto this shifting land
until there was no warmth in the descent
It was so very dark in the basement
Corona Corona will help to understand
What it is to be an illuminated man
Is it illustrated chaos?
Is there a master plan?
Please tell me.
Nowhere left to run
Raise my head and tell the sun
There’s a snake biting my brain I can’t seem to shake.
And there’s a damsel in my bed I can’t seem to save.
I’m in the sky with my arms open wide
begging for your burdens like my prodigal child
There’s a snake biting my brain I can’t seem to shake.
And there’s a damsel in my bed I can’t seem to save. (I’ll tell it to the sun)
There’s a snake biting my brain I can’t seem to shake.
And there’s a damsel in my bed I can’t seem to save. (I’ll tell it to the sun)

I could promise you diamonds, but a diamond is just a rock
I could promise you the moon, but the moon is just a rock too
I could promise you the skies above, but where would fly the turtle dove
And the turtle dove is a symbol of our love
What I promise you is simple ‘cause I’m a simple man
I’ll give you all my love and everything I am
I could promise you forever, but mine might end today
I could promise you a change, but you might hate it just the same
I could promise you a life of riches then spend all my time digging ditches
To buy the fancy home, while you sit in it alone
What I promise you is simple ‘cause I’m a simple man
I’ll give you all my love and everything I am
I could promise to be handsome, but looks just fade with time
I could promise to be strong, but strength fades as life goes on and on
I could promise you you’d never hurt, but that’s a liar’s tale with a liar’s worth
I’m a lot of things, but a lie I dare not to be
What I promise you is simple ‘cause I’m a simple man
I’ll give you all my love and everything I am
What I promise you is simple ‘cause I’m a simple man
I’ll give you all my love and everything I am

Mad Man on the Mountain
04:35
|
|||
He cast his shadow down down from the mountain
To reclaim all things in darkness once and for all
In the valley below the people are dancing
But what they don’t know is the avalanche grows ever closer
Whoa whoa whoa whoa
Hand in hand they go and dip their cups in the fountain
Wait for someone to pronounce them safe when the lights go out
Through the trees a rustling of leaves as he beckons
But don’t ever stop to listen for his wicked whisper on the wind
Can he see inside our bedrooms
Can he see inside our hearts
I heard a rumor that you can do
Anything you put your crooked hands to
He stretched his fingers out to search every crevice
seeking to corner and trap us and we all got caught
Blame him for love for shame for inclement weather
All the things that keep us together huddled round the fire in the dark
Whoa whoa whoa whoa
On the peak his crown is shines like a diamond
Black clouds laced with blue lightning to send the shivers up your spine
We are all ships in the waves so close to capsizing
Praying for dry land but there’s only the madman upon his mount
Can he see inside our bedrooms
Can he see inside our hearts
I heard a rumor that you can do
Anything you put your crooked hands to

I Ate a Vulture
04:39
|
|||
Is there a reason you go through life without the fear of being eaten?
‘cause I’m around the corner and I haven’t been fed.
Go run, go hide. Lock all your doors and bar yourself inside.
I’ll sharpen my teeth while i wait under your bed.
When I open my mouth the whole world tumbles in.
How can a truly hungry man ever be sated?
Oh, I even ate the vultures!
I’m the deepest well ever drilled.
I punched a hole through the rooftop of hell.
I’m the rumble beneath your feet.
Look once, look twice across my expanse, I’m a thousand years wide.
Over and over I echo your name.
When I open my mouth the whole world tumbles in.
How can a truly hungry man ever be sated?
Oh, I even ate the vultures!

The Devil and the Moon
05:04
|
|||
The moon said to the sun, “Better run, boy, better run,
‘cause I’m comin’ up that lonesome road ahead.
And the devil’s close in tow, so by six you better go,
‘cause if you don’t then seven finds you dead.”
That moon he never lies, so the sun fell from the sky.
but that moon he never said a word to me.
So I wandered up that road where so often I would go
to confess my tribulations to the trees.
Oh that wicked winter night, all was so still, calm and quiet.
Sanctuary from the troubles of my day.
So I poured my troubled mind in the thickets ‘neath the pines
in the hopes it would find a place to lay
Pacing like a bedlamite talkin’ to myself that night
Timbers skirted in a gentle floating haze
Not a soul to hear my cries, except the silent of the night
And the horses in the pasture as they graze
You better keep an eye out for trouble boy,
‘cause trouble comes lookin’ for you.
You better keep an eye on the devil boy,
‘cause he’s keepin’ an eye on you.
By now the moon’s high in the sky with the devil holdin’ tight
To his back. He’s waitin’ for a passer-by.
“Here comes a troubled soul. Oh, just listen to him sulk.”
He whispers as he slithers down a shaft of light
He tells the moon, “You are to kind, and I thank you for the ride.
Can I ask just one more favor of you friend?
To my world the boy is blind. So just hold this shaft of light
fixed on me until he’s reached his tragic end.”
You better keep an eye out for trouble boy,
‘cause trouble comes lookin’ for you.
You better keep an eye on the devil boy,
‘cause he’s keepin’ an eye on you.
Myself still unaware the devil’s waitin’ for me there.
I stop and rest at an old familiar bend,
where in the summer time the cat tails grow to 6 feet 9
and I typically turn back home to find my friends
But I haven’t got my fill somethin’ bids me further still
Now the branches reach across to block the sky
Closer than I’ll ever know to the ruin of my soul
Without regard I rambled on preoccupied,
You better keep an eye out for trouble boy,
‘cause trouble comes lookin’ for you.
You better keep an eye on the devil boy,
‘cause he’s keepin’ an eye on you.

Heads Are Gonna Roll
03:37
|
|||
You are a running man, but you’re no athlete
You went and skipped town on a dime
You’re good at staying low, but its not hide and seek
Out of sight, doesn’t mean out of mind
You are an animal stood up on two feet
You’re hands are dirtier than mine
You speak a language / But it’s unknown to me
I’m deaf to the consonants of crime
When they caught you, were you brave?
When you stand in line to meet the blade,
does it calm you to know that heads are gonna roll?
You are the danger around the money machines
I traded silver for my life
Now I see a mask on everyone that I meet
And hear my locks tampered with at night
When they caught you, were you brave?
When you stand in line to meet the blade,
does it calm you to know that heads are gonna roll?

Red Ribbons
02:37
|
|||
Red ribbons in the road what can you tell me?
I’m backing up traffic trying to see.
Fallen from the hair of some one’s daughter run away to a place by the sea.
Oh I can’t see what’s right in front of me
Red ribbons all alone on a stretch of concrete.
Her smell is in the air and down in the street.
Like the creeping of the vines, through cracks in the broken street,
She’s not where she should be
Red ribbons in the road waiving madly
Calling my attention to a mystery
A scarlet trace, an open grave, whatever can it mean?
Tell me, tell me, tell me
Tell me, tell me, tell me
Red ribbons in the road what can you tell me?
Red ribbons in the road what can you tell me?

Dark Bloom
04:19
|
|||
Hail in the dead of Summer.
Footsteps on the leaves.
Crawling into midnight and dancing with the trees.
Creeping up the walls like kudzu in the Spring.
Washed up in a dizzy dream,
driftwood.
At the whim of the broken senses,
I can hear insect green.
Watching the silence, sneaking past the seen.
A whisper on the blank page.
White out over screams.
The mutes sound more like sirens to the deaf ear.
There's a time and a place for clarity, but its not here.
This is where the Rorschach smears.
There's something in the mist.
There's something in the mystery.
Barking at the shadows.
Peeking through my hands.
I'm asking fragile questions, but I'm making big demands.
There's a time and a place for clarity, but its not here.
This is where the Rorschach smears.
In the dark bloom. In the dark bloom. Oh yeah in the dark bloom.
